I’ve been on a quest for healthy skin since this year and though I’ve not been consistent with other things I’ve tried, since I started using kaolin clay face mask on my skin, I’ve seen tremendous changes.
Kaolin clay is also called nzu here in Nigeria. It is a white clay with a very soft texture. It is rich in kaolinite and has a neutral pH. Compared to other clays such as bentonite clay, it doesn’t make your skin dry so outs perfect for dry skin and sensitive skin. It is gentle on the skin and makes it soft and healthy.
Benefits of kaolin clay for the skin.
1.) It helps control oiliness by removing excess sebum from your face and clears the skin pores but without stripping your skin of it’s natural oils. When your skin pores are cleansed and unclogged, it reduces blackheads and acne.
2.) Kaolin clay is a natural detoxifier and exfoliator. It cleans the face of every dirt, grime and bacteria effectively from your skin, leaving behind a soft and radiant skin.
3.) It soothes rashes and irritation. Kaolin clay has mild healing properties, and when applied to the affected area, it soothes inflammation. Here in Nigeria, it is used to soothe the irritation of chicken pox on the skin.
4.) It neutralizes body odour. Kaolin clay absorbs sweat and draws out impurities thereby neutralizing body odour.
How to make kaolin clay facemask
1.) Kaolin clay
2.) Apple cider vinegar
3.) Honey(if you have dry skin)
I use my eyes to measure what will be enough for me and I make a fresh batch for every use. The kaolin clay I got comes in solid form so the first thing to do is to grind it into powder.
Pour a little bit of apple cider vinegar to make a thick paste then add a little bit of honey. I basically use a drop. I don’t have dry skin so I don’t use honey everytime.
Apply the mixture to your face and let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse out with cool water and go ahead to use a face toner and moisturizer or serum.
This mask is gentle enough to use everyday which I do, but will switch to using it every other day very soon. My skin has never been this healthy. It’s not very clear yet, but we’re on our way there.
Do you use face masks for your skin?
